Jon Houglum

Western North Carolina Professional Oil Painter and Private Art Teacher

As a native of Northern Minnesota, Jon Houglum served with the U. S. Army in Vietnam.  Houglum received a B.S. Degree in Art Education from Moorhead State University Moorhead Minnesota, as well as studying four years privately under Antonias Raemaechers a Dutch Master in Martinsville, Indiana. During those four years of study under Raemaechers, Houglum also took two years of portraits and figures at the John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Houglum established "Houglum Fine Art Studio & Gallery" August 1980 in Safety Harbor, Florida where he taught private art lessons.  From 1985 to June 1996 he taught art in the public school system of Pinellas County Florida.  Houglum and his wife moved to Franklin, North Carolina in June of 1996 establishing “Houglum Fine Art Studio & Gallery” at Hougie Heaven.

Houglum’s paintings have exhibited at: John Collette Fine Art of Highlands, North Carolina; Chautauqua National Exhibition of American Art; Hoosier Salon, Indianapolis, Indiana; Fountain City Art Center, Knoxville, Tennessee; numerous Exhibits in the Greater Tampa Bay Area, Florida; Macon County Art Association, Franklin, North Carolina, and Highlands Art League, Highlands, North Carolina. 

Permanent Exhibits include:  U. S. Army Center of Military History in Washington, D.C.; Safety Harbor Museum, Safety Harbor, Florida; and Pinellas County Schools Superintendent Portrait Collection.
